This is the brand new Volvo S60 (2019)

After Volvo announced the new "Polestar Engineered" line for the new S60 and announced that it is then the first model of the brand that is no longer offered as diesel, the car has been officially unveiled. Technically, the new S60 is of course identical to the new V60. Because the station car also uses Volvo's "SPA" platform (scalable product architecture), now used throughout 60 (including XC60) and 90 series (S90, V90 and XC90).

Design

The new platform creates impressive growth. The new S60 is 4.76m long, 1

.85m wide and 1.43m high. He offers his predecessor in length by 12 centimeters, the wheel base increases by 9.6 cm. Even though the height was reduced by 5 centimeters, passengers could look forward to much better space, as in the station car. Up to the B-post is almost identical to the V60. The front is a removable front with the flat headlamps, which of course have LED lights in the "Thor Hammer" look. The chrome-framed grill with the big Volvo logo looks dominant, but it's not too thick. In the side view, the significantly longer wheelbase compared to the predecessor is clearly visible. The windows channel and the light edge above the threshold rise slightly backwards. While there is a very short overhang on the front, it's a little more lush on the back. Nevertheless, the S60 is proportionally balanced. Rear is again based on the S90. Most striking are the strikingly designed LED rear lights in C-shape. The coupe-shaped roof line is used in similar form to all major competitors (Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, Lexus IS and Alfa Giulia). With a luggage volume of 442 liters, the S60 also races on the competition level.

Cockpit and controls

Cockpit is one-on-one from the V60 and thus builds on the interior of all current Volvo models. Operation is now also on the S60 via 9.2 "touch screen in portrait format. Sensus Infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G / LTE. The stationary car is thus also very well connected and can provide a Wi-Fi hotspot if required. The system is powered by the touch screen, which acts as a control center for controlling vehicle functions, navigation, connection services, and entertainment apps. New is the so-called "Volvo On Call App", with which travel destinations can be sent directly via the smartphone of the S60 navigation system.

Since Volvo no longer offers a diesel for the S60, the engine production of gasoline and hybrid versions, all of which meet Euro 6d emission standards -temp sector. Two plug-in hybrid drive lines will be available in the lounge from the beginning: a 340 hp T6 Twin Engine AWD and 390 hp (640Nm) T8 Twin Engine AWD. In both versions, the petrol engine drives the front axle and the electric motor drives the rear wheels. As a plug-in hybrid, the S60 is a four-wheel drive without a cardan shaft. For the launch of the market are also the well-known T5 (250 hp) and T6 (310 hp) petrol engines to choose from. The latter has a standard "four-wheel drive" and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. On request, the driver can adjust the S60 to his personal taste through active suspension settings and driving modes. Later, Volvo could also drive 190 hp T4 as a start-up engine. For three variants there are already precise technical data:

The performance of the S60 T8 Twin Engine is also increasing by 15 hp.

Security

Security has always been a top priority for Volvo. An extensive list of standard security systems aims to make the new S60 one of the safest cars on the market. Emergency Braking System Volvo City Safety helps the driver avoid collisions using automated braking systems and detection systems. According to the manufacturer, the only system on the market is recognizing pedestrians, cyclists and big animals. For the first time, it now also initiates emergency braking to mitigate collisions with offensive vehicles. The Half Autonomous Driving System Pilot Assist which helps the driver on motorways and motorways by automatically controlling, accelerating and braking up to 130 km / h, has been updated to provide better swing performance. Also on board are the Road Edge Detection system, Upcoming Lane Mitigation and other control systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with automatic emergency braking improves safety during recovery.
