Austria at the forefront of eGovernment in Europe – Politics –

The annual benchmark for eGovernment provides the European Commission with insights into the status of eGovernment services in Europe. This year’s results show that all European countries have improved the provision of digital services. The study also shows that when it comes to the introduction and implementation of digital administrative services, Austria is 87 percent, 1

5 percent above the European average.

The 17th edition of the eGovernment benchmark, collected by Capgemini and implemented with its partners Sogeti, IDC and Politecnico di Milano, highlights the status of the digital transformation of public administrations in Europe. The evaluation of 10,000 websites in 36 European countries means that currently 70% of the services to be assessed can be obtained online by citizens and companies. In Austria, it is 81 percent.

According to the report, Europe is moving in the right direction: the efficiency of e-government increased from 65 to 68 percent compared with the previous year. At the same time, the gap between pioneers and the backward was further closed. In particular, the countries receive points for the user-friendliness of important Internet portals, where the average rating is 91 percent, in Austria 95 percent.

At the same time, e-government work for citizens and companies can be further reduced by using sources such as the basic register to automatically fill in personal information. For example, this is currently possible for 57 percent of the forms.

“The effects of Covid-19 have once again made it clear how important high-performance e-government is in crisis situations, but also for modern societies as a whole,” emphasizes Bernd Bugelnig, CEO of Capgemini in Austria. “The next step will be the transformation into a very smart and people-oriented society, known as Society 5.0, where services are increasingly provided automatically using artificial intelligence,” says Bugelnig.

All in all, e-government has so far helped entrepreneurs in particular. This applies to the requirements throughout the life cycle, from the formation of the company and its registration, through the employment of employees to the payment of corporation tax.
