A 24-year-old man, identified as Mr. Lv was admitted a few days ago at Sanhe Chinese Hospital in Guangdong Province due to severe pain in the ear canal.
The doctors were surprised when, based on some studies, they determined that the substance had about a dozen cockroaches that were incubated in the ear.
Dr. Zhong Yijin ear, nose and throat specialist at the clinic, told AsiaWire that this person claimed: "Much pain in the ear, as if something was scratching or pulling in" .
Lv told doctors that the first fright took him as he asked his family to light the affected area. When they could focus on the object, they realized it was an insect.
The doctor confirmed the man's suspicions after he discovered a newborn child of German cockroaches and his mother in the ear canal. "I discovered more than 10 baby cockroaches inside" said Dr. Yijiin.
Deputy Head of Otolaryngology at Sanhe Hospital, Dr. Jiang Tengxiang told local media that Lv was in the habit of leaving snacks near his bed while he was sleeping, which probably caused intruders to use his ear as an improvised incubation chamber.
The doctors were able to extract both the children and their mother, one by one, from Lv's ear with tweezers. Experts say German cockroach mothers (blattella germanica) generally contain 30 to 40 eggs inside.
