Amber Heard, the former wife of actor Johnny Depp, can see him testify in a lawsuit over domestic abuse allegations, a court has ruled.
Depp sues the publisher of Sun, News Group Newspapers (NGN) and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over a 2018 article that described Depp as a “frubeat.” The article cited Heard’s claims that Depp was physically abusive during their marriage, a charge he has denied.
The case is scheduled to be heard in a British court on Tuesday. NGN’s legal team failed to get the case dismissed from the court earlier this week.
In British criminal cases, witnesses cannot be present in court while others testify. However, they may be present in civil cases. Depp hoped to ban Heard by claiming that her testimony would be affected if she was present while cross-examined.
