Allen, Bills offense has strong showing against the Panthers on Wednesday

Some notes from the last day of joint practices at Wofford College

Spartanburg, South Carolina (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers wrapped up their second and final joint practice session on Wednesday at Wofford College, and just like their first practice on Tuesday, it was spirited and competitive without any of the fisticuffs or other fighting we've seen in these situations around the league. That made it a very productive day for both squads.

Here are some notes and observations from practice:

  • Both offenses seem to get the better of each defense during the 11-on-11 servings, which were going on simultaneously side-by-side on two fields. There was one stretch in which Panthers quarterback Cam Newton seemed to miss him. He did a great job of moving the Carolina offense down the field fairly quickly and efficiently.
  • Right next to that was Josh Allen making similar types of throws and plays to get the Bills offense down the field. I was impressed with Allen's ability to see and diagnose the defense, then get rid of the ball quickly and on target. He took what the defense gave him and recognized what that was before the snap.
  • The first-team offensive line had a bit of a change-up, but it was because Ty Nsekhe did not participate in any team action. He took part in individual positional drills, but then stayed on the sideline the rest of practice. He was alone and not with any trainers, which is obviously encouraging. With Nsekhe out, here's how the offensive line looked for both the first and second units:
    • First-team offensive line
      • LT – Dion Dawkins
      • LG – Quinton Spain
      • C – Jon Feliciano
      • RG – Spencer Long
      • RT – Cody Ford
    • Second-team offensive line
      • LT – D'Ondre Wesley [19659006] LG – Wyatt Teller
      • C – Ryan Bates
      • RG – Ike Boettger
      • RT – Jarron Jones and Garrett McGhin
  • Cornerback Kevin Johnson rotated with the first team defense with both Levi Wallace and Tre'Davious White. It may well have been simply to keep guys fresh in the extreme heat. Captain Munnerlyn worked in the slot with the ones along with Taron Johnson.
  • Wide receiver Robert Foster got a healthy dose of reps with the first-team offense, along with John Brown, Cole Beasley, Zay Jones, and Andre Roberts. Isiah McKenzie and Ray-Ray McCloud also saw time with the ones.

Up next:

The Bills will have a walk-through (no public or media access) on Thursday in Spartanburg before shuttling to Charlotte, North Carolina to prepare for their preseason game Friday night against the Panthers.
