Official Security Council Colonel Alexander Vindman applauded onlookers during his congressional testimony on Tuesday after he expressed his love for America to the House Intelligence Committee.
Rep. Sean Maloney, D-N.Y., Questioned Vindman and asked him to read a quote from his opening statement about his father and his sense of duty. Vindman told his father not to worry about any relapse from his testimony and asked Maloney how he overcame his fear of reprisals.
"Congressman, because this is America. This is the country I have served and defended, that all my brothers have served. And here, the right questions," Vindman replied.

Vindman also acknowledged that he put himself in the spotlight by coming forward, but said that his belief in American values gave him confidence to continue.
"I knew I assumed a lot of risk," he said. "[My father] deeply worried about [my testimony]. Because it was the ultimate risk in his context. "
