The state Department of Public Health said Friday that there were 290 new cases of coronavirus in Massachusetts, including 212 cases confirmed by the live virus molecular test and 78 likely cases due to positive antibody tests and exposure or symptoms.

State officials said there were six new cases of coronavirus on the Cape in a total of 1,553 since reporting began.

Public health officials also confirmed another death on Cape Cod on Friday. On Cape Cod, 148 people diagnosed with coronavirus have died.
The state death toll is 8,149, including 17 new deaths reported Friday.
Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis reports on two coronavirus patients, while Falmouth Hospital treats five coronavirus patients. None of the hospitals had patients at their ICU on Friday.
