The ever-expanding area of democratic presidential candidates contains a number of healthy faces, but it is the oldest living ex-president who gives significant influence.

Booker called Carter a "leading light and inspiration". Buttigieg described him as "an extraordinary person". Even President Trump has consulted Carter on issues such as relations with China. Each of them said the discussion was friendly.
Carter has previously supported various democratic candidates and declared that in 2016 he voted for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016 Democratic Primary. While sitting side by side with the Democratic Socialist over Hillary Clinton, he warned that if Democrats proposed "for a liberal program", it could lead to Trump being re-elected – something Carter himself failed to do.
Carter was defeated by Ronald Reagan with a large margin, after his presidency had been caused by an Iranian hostage crisis and high unemployment.
"Their administration was not perfect," admitted Klobuchar.

Booker, Buttigieg and Klobuchar all met with Carter while attending sessions in his weekly Sunday School at Maranatha Baptist Church. They have been proud to market these meetings, unlike other bachelor meetings with former presidents such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who were only revealed by anonymous tips.
Carter was planning to teach this weekend, but stopped having to figure out who he is recovering from hip replacement surgery. The former president broke his hip during a fall in the home on Monday and was released from Phoebe Sumter Medical on Thursday.
