$ 10,000 in fireworks stolen from Portland collection booths

An estimated $ 10,000 fireworks were stolen from a North Portland collection booth overnight Friday.

They stole from a Peninsula Optimist Club fundraiser located at Fred Meyer on North Lombard Street, police said Saturday.

When volunteers showed up Saturday morning, they found the lock on the container that the fireworks were damaged and the fireworks were missing.

Money from the booth fireworks sale was intended to benefit local youth groups and community organizations in North Portland.

“This theft has a huge impact in society, because the Peninsula Optimist Club is a prime example of a group that invests and supports the underserved in our society,”

; said Chief Chuck Lovell. “I hope those involved will hear this and re-examine and return the items.”

Police are investigating and asking for some tips on the crime.
